GHA Hockey Tournaments for Schools

I hope you all had a good summer break and are looking forward to the new hockey season.

The first Schools County tournament is in less than three weeks, so in preparation I thought I would send out some information so you know how things will be running this season…

  • Competition Day information will be sent out about a week before each tournament but will ALSO be available on the GHA website.
  • Please check your JUNK folders if you have not received anything or look directly on the GHA website - you will find all information here
  • If there is due to be poor weather on the day of a tournament please check your emails AND the GHA website BEFORE setting off to check for any changes to the schedule
  • If you are going to struggle with brining an umpire please let me know ahead of the tournament as it really helps with planning
  • Payments of Entry Fees - less than half of schools have paid their entry fees - please can you chase your Finance Departments up so we can get the admin out of the way before the hockey starts!
  • This season will be my last as the GHA Schools Competitions organiser. GHA are looking for a replacement so if you know anyone interested in volunteering please ask them to get in touch with me and I can talk them through what is involved. Parents, retired teachers or anyone else who has a bit of time to spare are most welcome!

Other Information you may find helpful…

The West Hockey Association Review Document document gives clarity over all elements of the Schools Competitions. It explains the changes for the coming season that England Hockey have introduced and details proposals to refine definitions of Emerging & Intermediate Schools to make it easier for schools to enter the correct Tiers. It also gives dates and venues for all WHA competitions which you may find helpful for planning purposes.

The Hockey Hub is a free resource from England Hockey that has some great teacher training information available.

The Hockey Youth Trust awards grants to schools and junior sections of clubs to enable them to purchase starter kits, playing equipment, junior goal keeping kit and develop zone hockey, junior umpires, indoor hockey and youth leagues. Grants are awarded wholly at the discretion of the Trustees and are normally between £100 and £1,200.
